Claude Code setup

Add Reddit and social search to Claude Code in one command

Claude Code connects to remote MCP servers over HTTP. One command registers Reddinbox and sends your API key as a header. After that, Claude can search and read threads while it works.

Free trial. No credit card required.

Steps

Set up Claude Code step by step

  1. 1

    Create an API key

Sign up, open Settings, then API keys. Create a key and copy it. It starts with rdb_ and is shown once.

  2. 2

    Run the add command

Paste the command below into your terminal and replace the placeholder with your key.

  3. 3

    Confirm it connected

Run claude mcp list, or type /mcp inside a Claude Code session. Reddinbox should show as connected with five tools.

  4. 4

    Ask for threads

Ask Claude to search for a topic. It will call search_threads and return posts with links.

Where the config lives
  • Run the command in your terminal. Claude Code stores it in your local config for the current project by default.
  • Add --scope user to the command to make Reddinbox available in every project.

Check it works

First prompts to try

  • Use reddinbox to search Reddit for complaints about our latest release this week.

Troubleshooting

Claude Code troubleshooting

The server shows as failed or needs authentication
Check the header. It must read Authorization: Bearer rdb_..., with the word Bearer and a space. Remove and re-add the server with the corrected command.
Claude says the tool is not available
Run /mcp in the session to see the connection state. Start a new session after adding a server, since tool lists load at start.
I get an access or budget error
The key's account must have an active trial or paid plan with token budget left. Check usage under Settings, API keys.
Rate limit message
Each key allows 30 calls per minute. Ask Claude to batch searches or wait a minute.
I want to remove it
Run claude mcp remove reddinbox. Revoke the key in Settings if you no longer need it.
